Back on April 19th, I posted on this blog about the garden the kids and I planted in their back yard.
I was able to keep their interest for about a month with weeding, watering & checking on the plants.
Then, summer vacation and the HEAT arrived!
Our focus turned towards other things to do and finding ways to stay cool, like swimming!
Our little plot became neglected!
I wandered over to the garden this afternoon (it wasn't too hot) to check out what,
IF ANYTHING, managed to survive or bear fruit.
Well, the pea plants did have a few dead, dried pods on them as did the green beans.
The tomato plants are still green and quite tall, but no yellow flowers indicating produce.
The cucumbers, also green, had a few dried up yellow flowers and hidden under a leaf, was the cucumber you see in the photo above!
Not much bigger than a Chapstick,
I washed it, peeled it and sliced it for the kids to enjoy!
"MMMMmmm!" was their comment!
"Any more?"
Yeah! right!!
I reminded them of the Henny Penny story.
Maybe next year!
