The Tech Age!

I was w/o Internet service for a little over 24 hours.

I was not born in the generation of computers & cell phones.
I remember how excited our family was when we got a 13-inch COLOR TV!
A microwave entered our home in 1979 & our minds were blown away by how fast a baby bottle of milk could get warmed up!
I have used a rotary phone & witnessed the new "touch-tone" phones arrival!
I can read a book, with real paper pages!
I was a mother of 2 little girls when dial-up Internet was introduced to me. Couldn't use the phone when one was on the computer so many complaints from friends & family about our busy tone whenever they tried to call us!
My 1st cell phone? 2005!

So why did my life seem to come to a complete halt when I lost service?

Technology has taken over my life!
I had auctions to run, emails to answer & games to play!
On the plus side... dishes were done in a timely manner, C had her birthday (#22) dinner of ribs, mashed potatoes & carrots on time! Cats were given proper attention & I got 2 A/C units in the windows in time for the 90+ degree heat wave coming tomorrow!
Which could be another blog post on its own! Last 4-5 days have been rainy, 50ish degrees or both! Now we're getting over 4 days of 90 degree weather!

We got a new modem, ours was "fried"!
(means we'll have a higher cable bill since we're renting it. Not too much higher, but still...).
He did a speedtest. We're paying for high speed Internet & it turns out, our ancient router has not been able to keep up w/technology so we were not getting high speed!
Best Buy... I'll be visiting you tomorrow!
The man from Comcast wouldn't  rent me a router! With what we'd end up paying in rental fees, it's cheaper to buy a new one whenever technology gets faster!!
I like honest people!

Early Personalities

As I've been subbing @ a local preschool/daycare these past few days, I've been learning the different personalities of the kids. I find it fascinating at such young ages (3-6) how much of a certain personality shows in the children!

Names are changed to protect the innocent:

Theo... He oozes "coolness"! His turtlenecks are worn w/plaid golf shorts & wrap-around sunglasses. He knows all about trains, fancy cars & their inner workings.
Remember Fonzie in "Happy Days"? Theo is the Fonz!

Kasey... Goth. Her jet black hair w/her bangs covering her eyes. She begrudgingly plays w/the other kids & constantly bemoans how "dumb" this sort of play is to her.
"Why?" is her favorite thing to say when asked to do something.

Ally... Future head cheerleader! She's perky, friendly, chatty & blonde! Wants to be everyone's best friend. Likes her clothes to be fashionable & clean! Yes, her ponytail is always perfect!

Harry... He is a jokester. Quick to make a joke or laugh at someone else's failings! Games are a favorite of his & while he likes to win, he's not a sore loser. Will play well w/both girls & boys.

Jason... The teachers DO NOT like this child & it shows! He seems to be lacking in all areas of growing up. Almost 4, he's still in diapers, just learned how to use utensils while eating though he continues to need a bib. Listening & following directions are NOT his strong points. No one wants to play w/Jason which is hard for me to watch, but the other teachers have told me to just "let him be!"
I hope in Kindergarden, he gets a teacher who sees he needs special help & gets it for him ASAP!

Emma... Best way to describe her... SNOB. She looks down her nose at everybody, even her closest friends. A bit on the bossy side, she's easily offended when her friends don't do things as she instructed.

Aubry... Quite the little imp. She is the youngest & is still learning rules. She wants to please everyone, but being so little, she becomes a nuisance very fast!
Beautiful blue eyes w/big lashes just may be her saving grace!

Trinity... She is the crybaby of the bunch! She has the whining & crocodile tears act, down pat! Her older sister, Tessa, is one of the older, "afternoon" kids & doesn't let Trinity get away w/that behavior.

Tessa... Very mature for a Kindergardener! She reminds me of T back in the day. Looks out for the kids who don't seem to fit in. She's great w/her younger sister, which I appreciate!

Chance & Wyatt... Best buddies! They do everything together. Not related to each other, but are joined at the hip! Not troublemakers, but are active boys.

Jakey... Small, rugged little boy. I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up as a defensive lineman!
He's quiet, short, stocky & strong.

Dylan... I haven't figured him out yet. Sometimes he's the perfect child & other times, we have no choice but to put him in timeout for hurting others or disobeying the easiest of rules! He's a tester!

Josh... He's a follower. His cousin, Harry, is who he follows the most. Thank goodness they don't get into trouble w/their fun antics!

Nate & Will... Fraternal twins who look just enough like each other to fool me as to who is who & enjoys doing so, often! They are the oldest preschoolers, next year is Kindergarden, & they cannot wait to be gone from such a "baby" class.

Cecelia... She's got to be the "teachers pet!" She doesn't ever end up in time out. She listens, does just what she should, would rather be near the teachers than the other kids.
She too has the perfect ponytail & beautiful eyes!

Jack... He is a Kindergardener yet looks like a 3rd grader! He dresses up & plays w/Barbies. He's nice to the little kids. Yet, he makes me wonder what he'll be like in the future.

MacKenzie... She seems to avoid the radar of the grownups. She's very quiet, never in trouble, seems to play well w/others, but I haven't figured her out yet. Since I'm a grownup, I may never!

Morgan... She's only been coming for 2 days. I have her pegged as a klutz. She has no large motor skills, other than walking! Her "running" is very toddler like. She cannot stop herself at the end of the slide so she's always hurting her back. Trips over air. Can't throw or catch.
It's exhausting trying to help her!

Allahnnah... The athletic female of the class. She keeps up w/the boys easily! I think she has a crush on Harry & his cousin, Josh!

Sofie... She attends very rarely (15 hrs is the minimum allowed) so I haven't really seen her personality come out yet. She does like playing w/the older girls, but she is not an older girl.

Calum... He's the geek of the group. Knows all sorts of trivia about comics, movie heroes & such. He's quiet unless he's defending one of his comic heroes reputations.
Never tell him Batman is dumb or weird!

So these are the personalities I deal with lately! The most kids we've had at one time is 14! I won't get into the personalities of the other 2 grown ups I work with except to say, the head teacher is mean & scary while the teachers aide is awesome!

Recent Goings-On!

The 3 kids from Nanny Family #2 on their most recent visit, 5/2013. Their dad is at their old house, finalizing it for new tenants!

Carlotta has begun to do some schoolwork. Here is a few pages of what a 3 yr old does for schoolwork!

He is walking! When I last saw him, 3 weekends ago, he was just beginning to stand on his own. Now, he walks!

We went to an Irish restaurant here in our town for my bday/Mothers Day using a gift card given to me by Nanny Family #2.  It is located inside an old church! B got the French Onion soup as his appetizer. Not very Irish, but he liked it! C got artichoke/spinach dip w/crostini. Also, not too Irish, but she said it was good.

I chose an Irish Salad! What made it Irish versus a regular salad?  Red, sliced, canned beets on the top, I guess. That's all I noticed different.

These are Scottish eggs. Scotland & its food is close enough to Ireland to be served in an Irish restaurant, I suppose. Sausage meat is wrapped around a hard-boiled egg, fried & served as edible garnish. I found the meat to be extremely salty & the egg was super well done! Very rubbery.

Also, I found a very small nanny job very close to home. It's every Tuesday afternoon & occasionally short notice fill-ins from now until school ends. Then, it appears I may be watching my youngest brothers, J, oldest son, T, for the summer. Of course, in September, I have to start looking for more secure employment.
